Lyndonville, VT- The Men's Soccer team are off to the best start in school history after defeating the host NVU-Lyndon (0-1-1) 6-0, Saturday afternoon at the NVU Invitational, as the Falcons have not started a season 2-0 since its inception in 2002. The team also has not had a six goal output since 2016 so is off to a record breaking start. Freshman Andree Molina (El Paso, TX) who earned his first two points on Friday, dishing out two assists, led the way for the Falcons in the victory on Saturday over the Hornets, scoring a pair of goals and adding three more assists to his stat sheet. Junior transfer Nicolas Shervensquy (Rio Grande Do Sul, Brazil) also tallied a pair of goals in the win while adding an assist, his first points of the young season.
Fisher did not waste any time in this one as they got off one of their 34 shots on the day 15 seconds into the match, a strike by Molina that missed wide. Grad student Jonathan Collins (Southwick, MA) followed with a shot of his own just seconds later but could not capitalize. NVU earned its first of just four shots in the 5th minute as Falcons keeper Christopher Garcia (Rowland Heights, CA) denied Sam Ogenoff to keep it 0-0. The Falcons got their first goal of the match from Molina at 10:04 to give the visitors an early 1-0 lead. The score would remain the same despite Falcons best efforts, shooting 13 shots over the next 30 minutes of play. FC finally broke through again just before halftime as Molina threaded a pass to Shervensquy to make it 2-0 before the break.
The Falcons offense picked up right where it left off as they continued to control possession. Sophomore Leonardo Mildor (Pompano Beach, FL) gave his team a 3-0 lead eight minutes into the second half, his second goal in as many days. Fisher added their 4th goal just minutes as Molina got it by Hornets keeper Caleb Derbyshire off a pass from senior captain Kervens Surpris (Pompano Beach, FL). Freshman Miguel Garcia-Zuniga got in on the action at 76:05, notching his first goal as a Falcon, putting his team up 5-0. Shervensquy sealed the win just minutes later for his second goal of the day and making it a 6-0 game.
Garcia got his second win of the season stopping the two Hornets shots he faced, while his counterpart Derbyshire added six saves for his first defeat of the season.
Fisher will have a few days off and will return to the road when they head to Westfield State on Tuesday evening, a game slated for a 7pm start.
