Falcons split the doubleheader with Rivier in style

(Nashua, NH) – After returning to the field for the first time on Wednesday since March 9th, the Fisher Falcons softball team split the double header against Rivier University, while picking up their first win of the season. The Raiders were victorious in the first game 13-4 and the Falcons responded in the second game winning 24-16.

 

The Falcons are now 1-11 on the season while the Raiders are now an even 6-6 on the season.

 

GAME ONE: Rivier University 13, Fisher College 4

 

Freshmen Taylor Roswell's two-run shot and RBI double helped power the Raiders past the Falcons in the first game of the doubleheader, 13-4.

 

Fisher jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first, on Kristina Brown's (Dixon, Calif.) RBI triple and then later scoring on an error. However, Rivier responded with four runs of their own.

 

Rivier was led by Roswell's 3-for-3, five RBI day along with a solid pitching performance from starting pitcher, Courtney Trahan. Trahan pitched four quality innings and gave up four runs, but only two were earned also picking up a strikeout and the win.

 

After the Raiders expanded their lead to 12-2, the Falcons added two more runs of their own in the fourth with the help of Senior Morgan Slemi's RBI double to left scoring Darien Lavino. Selmi then scored later on in the inning on Mikayla Zimmerman RBI single.

 

Brown and Selmi paced the Fisher offense all evening, but it was not enough to keep up. Zimmerman took the loss in the cirlce for the Falcons.

 

GAME TWO: Fisher College 24, Rivier University

 

The final game of the double-header was full of offense as the Fisher College Falcons softball team picked up their first win of the season and splitting the double header winning 24-16.

 

The Falcons bats started off hot early as they jumped to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning. Kristina Brown banged a double to left center field and junior Mikayla Zimmerman added a 3-run shot of her own.

 

However, the Raiders would respond with six runs of their own in the bottom of the first capped off by back-to-back homeruns by senior Destiny Jordan and freshman Kendell Stanton. The Raiders added four more in the next inning and the Falcons bats got going again.

 

Zimmerman would add to her hot day with a two-run triple and freshman Corrie Edstrom blasted a 2-run homerun, her second of the year. Fisher junior Becky Collison would add a RBI single to right center cutting the lead to 10-9.

 

After some back and forth action, the score was all tied at 13 going to the sixth inning. Fisher went to finish the game outscoring Rivier 11-3 in the last two innings. The Falcons rally was highlighted by Maria Rivera's 3-run triple and then followed by back-to-back RBI singles by Zimmerman and sophomore Luz Evangelista making the score 20-13 and they would not look back.

 

Zimmerman led all hitters on the day going 4-for-6, with a career-high nine RBIs and scoring three runs on the day. Rowley, Evangelista, and Edstrom all had three hits apiece and all starters had at least one RBI.

 

Rowley started for the Falcons and pitched a complete game, picking up her first win of the season.

 

With the win the Falcons are now 1-11 on the season. Fisher will be back on the diamond for a double header Tuesday April, 4th at home vs. Dean College.
