Falcons Fall to Quick Hitting Owls

Brighton, MA- The Fisher Falcons Softball team suited up under the lights last Saturday to face off in their home opener to the University of Maine- Presque Isle. The Falcons fell in the first game 11-2 in the team effort.

As a result of a pregame conference, Fisher started the first game as the visiting team and made quick work of establishing their presence. Pitcher Taylor Rowley got things rolling with the first at bat, she doubled deep into outfield. After Corrie Edstrom struck out swinging, Becky Collison's single sent Rowley across the plate to put the Falcons up 1-0. After another single by Mikayla Zimmerman which sent Collison to third, things seemed to be gearing up for another Fisher run. Zimmerman managed to steal second before Luz Evangelista hit into a fielder's choice sending her to first, but the second out quickly followed, when Collison attempted to cross home only to get nabbed by the catcher. Brtini Walker struck out swinging to wrap up the top of the first, leaving two teammates stranded on base but with one run in the bag. The UMPI Owls refused to let themselves get caught watching the game and after a quick ground out by Legassie, they loaded up the bases. A wild pitch forced a run in followed by a double by Shaw resulted in two further runs before the inning could be concluded. At the end of the first Presque-Isle had jumped out 3-1.

Fisher was held hit-less in the top of the second and the Owls capitalized on the momentum by earning 7 runs off of 6 hits. That heat could not last though as the Falcons managed to earn back a run in the third and kept from UMPI from any further gain. The third inning saw the score sitting at 10-2. A quick fourth inning for both teams only saw one hit, which resulted in an additional run for UMPI before Fisher stepped back up to the plate for the top of the 5th. After a staunch battle at the top of the inning, Presque-Isle pitcher Brookleynn Garcia managed to find three outs and wrap up the first game with a score of 11-2.
