Comeback Stalls in Loss to Presque-Isle

Brighton, MA- The Fisher Softball team held a late night matchup against the University of Maine-Presque Isle in the second of two games on Saturday night. As the darkness descended on a shortened game called due to darkness, the Falcons unable to have their chance to overcome the 12-2 deficit.

The Owls jumped out early in the first inning and making for a long start for pitcher Taylor Rowley. While Rowley and her teammates worked to force outs in the field, UMPI continued to find the gaps and capitalize. After a hard fought defensive top of the first, Presque-Isle managed to walk away with 10 runs. Things slowed down for both teams over the next two innings before Fisher stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the third. After catcher Darien Lavino struck out swinging and Rowley grounded out to the short stop, senior center fielder Becky Collison managed to capitalize on an error by the Owls third baseman to reach first. Corrie Edstrom then stepped up, and this extra chance was not wasted by the Falcon squad. Edstrom doubled, sending Collison home. A repeat double by Mikayla Zimmerman sent Edstrom across the plate as the Falcons began chipping away at the score. The end of the third saw the score at 10-2.

The Owls were forced into two quick outs but managed to get Exferd and Peers on base. After Reagle was hit by a pitch and Page walked, UMPI had added two more runs to their total. A pitcher substitution was then called. As Edstrom began to warm up to take over after Rowley's dedicated pitching performance over two games, the lights suddenly extinguished leaving the game and the Falcon comeback stalled. The game was then called in the fourth inning with the score finalized as 12-2.

The senior softball players, Mikayla Zimmerman and Becky Collison will be honored on Saturday, April 28th, at Fraser Field in Lynn prior to the start of the NIAC Conference Tournament.
