Point Park Lady Pioneers Cruise Past Falcons

Sophomore Javanna Bernard did all that she could but it wasn't enough as the Point Park University Pioneers cruised past the Fisher Falcons, 80-56, in American Mideast Conference action Thursday night in Lynn, MA.

Bernard went 9-21 from the floor including 4-9 from behind the arc to finish with a career high 28 points.

Point Park jumped out to an early 7-2 lead just two minutes into the game after April Austin connected on a long range effort.  Suddenly the scoring stopped as neither team made a bucket for the next four minutes.

After a Bernard 3 pointer to cut the lead to six at 11-5, The Falcons and Pioneers traded baskets until Point Park began to turn up the pressure.  Subbing five at a time and constantly pushing the tempo against Fisher, the Pioneers were able to keep the Falcons chasing.

The lead expanded to 13 at 30-17 before two Amanda Davis (Dos Palos, CA/ Merced CC) free throws cut the lead to 11 to end the half.

Point Park led 34-23 at halftime mainly because of their 26 points in the paint and 19 points off the bench.

It didn't take long for Point Park to pick up from where they left off as a 13-4 run to open the first four minutes of the second half saw the advantage grow to 20 points.

Once the lead became comfortable, Fisher and Point Park would trade baskets for the remainder of the half for a, 80-56 Pioneer victory.

Point Park was led by Ashley Campbell's 11 points while Anna-Maria Boshkova and Terrica Savisky each added 10 points.  April Austin controlled the pace throughout the night, handing out 10 assists to go alone with 5 points and 5 rebounds.

Bernard added 5 rebounds to go with her career high 28 points.  Senior Amanda Davis added 12 points and 6 rebounds while point guard Pam Bounkhoune finished with 9 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

With the loss, the Falcons fall to 0-8 on the year and 0-3 in the American Mideast Conference. The will return to action on Sunday when they travel to AMC foe Carlow University in Pittsburgh, PA.  Tip-off is scheduled for 1PM.
