JWU Women’s Basketball Knocks Off Fisher, 66-42

Providence, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University women's basketball team posted a 66-42 victory against Fisher College in a non-conference contest at the Harborside RAC on Saturday evening.

Johnson & Wales was led by freshman Natalie DiCocco (Media, Pa.) with 14 points, four rebounds and three assists while freshman Kaitlin Kenney (Media, Pa.) had 14 points, four rebounds and four steals in the win for the Wildcats.

Sophomore Javana Bernard (Waterbury, Conn.) led the way for Fisher with a game-high 26 points on five three pointers while junior Pamela Bounekhoune (Fresno, Calif.) added 10 points, five assists and three rebounds in the setback for the Falcons.

The two squads traded baskets early with the contest tied 8-8 with just over 13 minutes left in the first half.  JWU then used a 13-5 run, capped by a layup from sophomore Justine Hughes (New York, N.Y.) to take a 21-13 lead with 5:24 on the clock,  Fisher cut the lead to 25-24 on a three-pointer by Bernard with 1:16 remaining in the stanza, however JWU closed out the half with the final four points to take the 29-24 lead into the locker room at halftime,  JWU held Fisher to just 25.8 % shooting from the field in the half.

JWU extended their lead early in the second and took their first double-figure lead when a jumper from sophomore Samantha Handrick (Castleton-On-Hudson, N.Y.) with 9:20 left in regulation. The Wildcats led by as many as 26 late in the second half before cruising to the 66-42 victory.

With the win Johnson & Wales improves to 3-7 for the year while Fisher falls to 0-14 on the season. The Falcons will return to action on Wednesday, December 21st when they travel to Daemen College for an American Mideast Conference contest at 6:00p.m.
