Falcons clipped by Wildcats in Daemen Classic Opener

AMHERST, NY - Junior forward Lia Zahn (Canadaigua, NY) came off the bench to score 16 points, scorching the net on 8-for-10 shooting to lead the Daemen Wildcats (10-1, 2-0 AMC) to an 85-29 victory over the visiting Fisher Falcons (0-15, 0-7 AMC) on day one of the Daemen College Holiday Classic. In the other women's game today, Roberts Wesleyan scored a 77-60 victory over Laurentian.

While Zahn came out firing from the outside, her teammates went to work in the paint as Daemen netted a staggering 56 points in close to the basket. The Wildcats also hammered the under-manned Falcons 49-21 on the glass.

After some initial back-and-forth play to start the game, Daemen seized control halfway through the first, opening up a 43-17 lead at the half. Fisher, who dressed just six players, found the second half treated them even worse as they managed just 12 points on 18% shooting (5-for-28) in the period.

Fisher only had three players record points on the night with junior point guard Pamala Bounkhoune (Fresno, CA) leading the way with 14 points.  Fisher leading scoring Javanna Bernard (Waterbury, CT) was held to 13 points on 4-21 shooting.

Sophomore forward Amanda Colon (Hartford, CT) added the only other basketball Fisher had on the night.

Daemen junior Chelsea Andorka (Canton, OH) led the Wildcats with 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Andorka also notched five assists in the win.

The Daemen Holiday Classic continues today. Fisher will face Roberts Wesleyan in the day's opening game at 12pm. Daemen will face Laurentian at 4pm.
