Falcons fall to Kangaroos, 64-54

Cortney Whalen scored 18 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead the visiting SUNY-Canton Kangaroos to a non-conference victory over the Fisher Falcons, 64-54.

The first half woes by the Falcons proved too much as their comeback effort fell just short.  Shooting just 19 percent in the first half, Fisher trailed 37-15 at the break but managed to outscore the visitors 39-27 in the second frame.

The falcons were paced by sophomore guard Javanna Bernard as she finished with 25 points and 5 rebounds.  Scoring 16 points in the second half, Bernard led the Falcons on a 33-15 run to open the half to cut the lead to seven.

The Roos stretched their lead back to 11 on buckets from Kaitlin Myers that proved the end to Fisher's comeback attempt. Myers finished with 15 points and 16 rebounds to go along with four assists.

Junior guard Pamala Bounkhoune was the only other Falcon in double figures, finishing with 12 points, four rebounds, and 5 assists. Center Makenzi Peeler had seven points and 10 boards in the losing effort.

The Falcons had five of six players record points, including a season high five points for forward Amanda Colon.

The Falcons (0-20, 0-4 AMC) return to action Saturday when they take on American Mideast Conference for Daemen College. Tip is scheduled for 1:00p.m.
