Falcons Fall in Opening Round of USJ Tip-Off Tournament

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Stephanie DeJesus (Meriden, Conn.) scored 18 points in 20 minutes off the bench in her first collegiate game and Shauna Sullivan (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and Devon Diliberto (Waterbury, Conn.) added 14 apiece as the University of Saint Joseph defeated Fisher College Friday 80-45 in a first round game of the 15th Annual USJ Tip-Off Tournament at the O'Connell Center.

It was the season-opener for Saint Joseph. Fisher is 0-4. Saint Joseph will play Wesleyan University in Saturday's 3 p.m. tournament championship game. Wesleyan defeated Purchase College 67-35 in Friday's other game. Purchase will play Fisher Saturday in the consolation game at 1 p.m.

DeJesus made eight of 10 shots and Sullivan, whose 14 points were also a career-high, was 6-for-7. Saint Joseph passed the ball exceptionally well in the first half, getting 19 assists on 21 baskets on the way to a 48-17 halftime lead.

All 10 players who dressed for USJ scored and each played at least 17 minutes. Lindsay Feducia (Beacon Falls, Conn.) had seven points and eight rebounds for USJ, Heather Framski (Prospect, Conn.) had eight points and seven rebounds and Claire Consonni (Bristol, Conn.) had eight rebounds, eight assists and five steals. Javanna Bernard (Waterbury, Conn.) scored 18 and Porsha Grayson (Merced, Cal.) scored 12 for Fisher.

Wesleyan 67, Purchase 35: Wesleyan (1-0) led 32-23 at halftime and outscored Purchase (0-1), 25-0 over the first 13:10 of the second half to put the game away.

Amber Wessells (Montclair, N.J.) and Miller Hartsoe (Glen Gadner, N.J.) scored 12 points apiece for Wesleyan and Cherkira Lashey (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 11 for Wesleyan. Nine different players made steals as Wesleyan forced 40 Purchase turnovers.

Lineker St. Hillaire (Wyandanch, N.Y.) scored a game-high 16 points for Purchase.
