Lady Falcons’ suffer upsetting defeat against Pine Manor, 73-72

BOSTON,MA-The Fisher College Women's Basketball team took a tough loss tonight, losing at home to Pine Manor College, 73-72.

The first half was a battle between the two teams with a combined 5 lead changes and at two situations in the game both teams were tied. At halftime, the Lady Falcons lead the Gators of Pine Manor College, 33-30. Fisher out scored Pine Manor in the paint by a margin of 22-18.

Junior Javanna Bernard (Waterbury, CT.) lead the Lady Falcons with 11 points while Freshman Shakieya Roland-Drake (Hyde Park, MA) and Sophomore Sabrina Rubaud (Brighton, MA) added eight points apiece. For the Gators, Anastasia Walker, Alexis Lee, and Natasia Franklin tied for the team lead with eight points each. Megan Badohu added eight rebounds for Pine Manor.

The back and forth battle continued in the second half as both teams traded baskets with neither team having more than a seven point advantage over the opponent. Fisher held the lead for most of the second half with Pine Manor surging at the end as Fisher couldn't hold them off. Senior Porsha Grayson(Merced, CA) scored a go-ahead jumper with 29 seconds left, but two free throws with seven seconds left by Alexis Lee gave Pine Manor the lead and eventually the victory.

Four players scored double digits for the Lady Falcons, including Javanna Bernard scoring a team-high 20 points with Porsha Grayson (17 points), Shakieya Roland-Drake(16) and Sabrina Rubaud(14) as the other double digit scorers for Fisher. For Pine Manor, Natasia Franklin and Meagan Badohu registered a double double with Franklin contributed game highs in both points (23) and rebounds (21). Two other Pine Manor players had double digits in points, Sybil Lynch (12) and Alexis Lee (12).

The lady Falcons will now face Albany Pharmacy on Friday January 18, 2013 at home with a start time of 5 EST.
