Lady Falcons Clipped by Owls, 80-47

(PRESQUE ISLE, ME) --  Guard Emily Pelletier (Sr./Fort Kent, ME) scored 22 points to lift the University of Maine-Presque Isle  women's basketball team over Fisher College, 80-47.  The game was the first for each team in the UMPI hosted Star City Classic.

After an 0-8 start, the Owls are now 3-1 in 2013.  Fisher falls to 0-14.

Presque Isle used two extended runs to offset slow starts at the beginning of each half.  Nine minutes into the contest, Fisher pulled out to a 14-9 lead.  Over the next seven minutes however, the Owls would go on a 28-6 run to take a commanding 37-20 lead.  During that stretch, Pelletier hit three jumpers and newcomer Taylor Cochran (Fr./Topsfield, ME) went 6-6 from the free throw line.

Despite the free fall, the Falcons did not fold.  Over the final two minutes of the first half and first four of the second, Fisher mounted a comeback.  Outscoring the hosts 14-5 in that stretched pulled them to within eight, 42-34.

That is when Pelletier and Doni Yendriga (Fr./Conneaut, ME) put the game out of reach for good.  The tandem scored the team's next 13 points as part of a 19-4 run.

Four Owls scored in double figures:  After Pelletier's 22, Yendriga scored 15, Amanda Hotham (Fr./Fort Fairfield, ME) came off the bench to contribute 12, and Olivia McNally dropped 11.

McNally filled a stat sheet with her 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists.

The Falcons were led by Porsha Grayson (18) and Javana Bernard (17).

In the first game of the Classic it was UMaine-Fort Kent mounting a comeback to defeat Thomas College, 71-67.

All teams will be in action again on Sunday.  Fisher will take on Fort Kent at noon.  After that contest the Owls will face Thomas.  Start time is set for 2pm.
