Lady Falcons fall to Simmons College, 62-50

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons sophomore Jen Janiak (Chelmsford, Mass.) netted a season-high 19 points as the Sharks snapped a four-gam losing streak with a 62-50 victory over the visiting Fisher College Falcons Monday evening at the Holmes Sports Center.

The Sharks (2-8) held the Falcons to 32.2 percent shooting from the floor and shot a season best 45.6 percent for the win. The Falcons (3-8) were led by Javana Bernard with 22 points, while teammate Porsha Grayson added 13.

Fisher broke away with a seven point lead late in the first half but the Sharks first year Ashely McAdams (Freeport, N.Y.) came off the bench and hit three straight to close the gap to two. Shakieya Roland Drake made a free throw with 17 seconds to play in the half to give the Falcons a three-point lead into the break.

Grayson buried two shots in the opening minutes of the second half to lift the Falcons to seven-point lead but the Sharks responded as Eliza Henley (Warner, N.H.) made two crucial free throws and McAdams continued to dominate in the paint. Janiak closed the gap to two with a trey and Liz Brasa (East Hartford, Conn.) tied the game at 40 with 11:43 to play.

The Sharks never trailed again and opened their largest lead of the game 62-46 in the final three minutes of play. McAdams ended the night with her first career double-double and career-high 15 points.

Simmons travels to Wesleyan University tomorrow evening for a 7:00 PM start. The Falcons travel to the University of Maine at Machias on Jan. 11.
