Lady Falcons drop home opener in final minutes

Lynn, Massachusetts – The Fisher College Lady Falcons drop to 1-1 on the season after losing a heartbreaker to Lyndon State College 68-63 Tuesday.

The Hornets also move to 1-1 on the season with their victory.

For most of the first half, the Falcons led Hornets thanks to an active offensive attack.

Madison Carroll (Methuen, Massachusetts) opened scoring for the Falcons, draining a three-pointer for a minute into the game.  Aliyanah McIntosh (Brooklyn, New York) added four points from two jumpers before Madison Carroll added another two to put Fisher College up 9-0 early in the first half.

The Hornets answered with a six point run to bring the score within three points, 9-6.  Murphy Carroll (Methuen, Massachusetts) hit a shot from behind the arc with 20 seconds in the first quarter to give the Falcons a 17-11 lead.

Alexis Akridge (Union, New Jersey) hit a lay up to increase the Fisher lead to 19-11 in the second quarter.  Two Lyndon State shots changed the score to 19-15 with 8:05 left in the half. 

Madison Carroll added five points for the Falcons to again extend the Falcon lead to 24-15.

However, as the clock wound down in the first half, Lyndon heated up.

Marley Harmon started a nine point run for the Hornets to tie the game at 24 with 3:04 left in the half.  The score was frozen at 27-26 in favor of the Falcons heading into the break.

Harmon opened up the second half hitting a jumper to give Lyndon State their first lead of the game, 28-27. 

The Falcons responded as the two teams went on 8-6 point run changing the score to 35-33 in Fisher's favor.

Throughout the third and early fourth quarters the teams traded blows with Fisher maintaining a narrow 61-60 lead going into the final minutes of the game.

With just over two minutes to play, Lyndon's Brittney Lafreniere drew a foul after sinking a layup. She hit her free throw to give Lyndon State a 63-61 lead.  Jillian Williams tied the game for the Falcons at 63, but Harmon and Hodge both drew fouls and drained three free throws in the final seconds to finalize the score at 68-63.

Sophomore Madison Carroll led the Falcons with 23 points and two rebounds in the loss.  Sister Murphy Carroll earned a double-double scoring 15 points collecting 10 rebounds.  McIntosh (10 points, 3 rebounds) and NaKeeya Goodman Bodie-Smith (Fitchburg, Mass.)(11 rebounds) were also key players for the Falcons.

Hodge (21 points, 21 rebounds) and Harmon (13 points, 10 rebounds) were the dominant force for the Hornets both scoring double-doubles in the victory.  LaFreniere was another star for Lyndon State scoring 18 points grabbing nine rebounds.

Fisher College will play host to NAIA opponent Ave Maria University on Friday, November 20.  Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. in the Fecteau-Leary Gymnasium in Lynn, Mass.  Lyndon State will play host to Norwich University Thursday, November 19 at 7:00 p.m.
