Gillingham, Ave Marie hands Fisher 2nd Consecutive Home Loss

BOSTON – The Falcons of Fisher College dropped a non-conference match up with Ave Maria University, 81 -47, Friday night at Fectau Leary Gymnasium in Lynn, Massachusetts.  With the loss the Falcons drop with 1-2 while the visiting Lady Gyrenes improve to 4-1.

 

Ave Marie jumped out to an early 11-2 lead just three minutes into the contest and never looked back. The Gyrenes held a commanding 26-8 lead after the 1st quarter primarily on the 10 points from sophomore guard Lauren Gillingham (Estero, FL/ Ft. Myers HS).  Madison Carroll (Methuen, MA/ Methuen HS) paced the Falcons with five points in the first ten minutes.

 

The two teams traded three-pointers to begin the 2nd quarter but Ave Marie would score 23 of the games next 28 points to hold a commanding 45-16 lead. The Falcons closed out the last 90 seconds on a 6-0 run to close the deficit to 24 but continued to trail 45-21 at the break.

 

Aliyanah McIntosh (Brooklyn, NY/ Medgar Evers Prep) paced the 1st half offense for the Falcons with seven points on 3-for-15 shooting.  Ave Marie's Gillingham had a game high 17 points at the break on 6-for-9 shooting.

 

Fisher was just 4-for-27 from the field on the first 20 minutes while Ave Marie was 15-for-45 including 7-for-20 from behind the arc.

 

AMU began the 3rd quarter on a 13-4 run before McIntosh collected a quick five points to cut Ave Marie's lead 63-32 after 20 minutes.  Fisher's Murphy Carroll (Methuen, MA/ Methuen HS) opened up the 4th quarter with four quick points but the Falcons couldn't manage to chip away at the lead as the Gyrenes controlled the contest throughout. 

 

AMU's Gillingham finished with a game high 23 points while Taylor Lindsey (North Port, FL/ Port Charlotte HS) added 13 points. Saje Schlatterer (St. Petersburg, FL/ Calvary Christian HS) and Yvanessa Vincent (Tampa, FL/ Academy of the Lakes) each had 12 rebounds. Fisher was led by McIntosh's 15 points while Murphy and Madison Carroll added 13 and 11 points respectively.

 

Fisher returns to action Monday evening when they travel to Green Mountain College for a 5:30pm tip-off. Ave Marie is back in action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Pine Manor for 1:00pm start.
