Falcons win battle of the birds over Eagles

POULTNEY, Vt. –A pair of 25-point performances by Christine Briggs (Rumford, Maine) and Murphy Carroll (Methuen, Mass.) powered Fisher College to a 92-46 victory over Green Mountain College in non-conference women's basketball action on Monday evening.

The Eagles started the game hot, jumping out to an early 8-2 lead through the first three and a half minutes of play.

Just over two minutes later the Falcons stormed back, knotting the score at 10-10 on the back of a NaKeeya Goodman-Boddie-Smith (Fitchburg, Mass.) jumper. Briggs and Murphy Carroll scored the half's final 13 points for the Falcons to take a commanding 23-12 lead into the second quarter.

The Eagles could not find an answer and struggled offensively in the second stanza, outscored by the Falcons 22-4. Fisher led 45-16 at the break.

Green Mountain regrouped at the half and played some inspired basketball during the third quarter outscoring the Falcons 22-20 while shooting 46.2 percent from the field.

However, a strong Falcon defensive effort stalled the Eagle attack in the fourth quarter. Fisher cruised to victory hitting 27 points to Green Mountain's eight to close the game.

Briggs and Murphy Carroll led all scorers in the game, with Briggs securing a double-double with a game-high 11 rebounds. Aliyanah McIntosh (Brooklyn, New York) and Madison Carroll (Methuen, Mass.) also had active nights with 18 and 10 points respectively.

Sherelle Jackson (12 points and four boards) and Suzanna Moses (13 points and six boards) led the Eagles' attack.

On the game, Fisher led in rebounds (60 to GMC's 59), turnovers forced (37 to 19), and points in the paint (40-18).

With the victory, Fisher moves to 2-2 on the season. They will take a few days at the Thanksgiving break before taking on Simmons, December 3, at 7 p.m. Green Mountain (0-2) will also take a few days before gearing up for its first conference game of the year at Colby-Sawyer next Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
