McIntosh, Falcons not enough for Wildcats

Lynn, Mass. – Freshman Aliyanah McIntosh (Brooklyn, New York) led all scoring with 26 points and seven rebounds, but it wasn't enough to earn the victory for the Falcons.

Fisher College falls to 2-4 on the season with their 88-83 loss to Wheelock College (3-2) Tuesday evening.

The Falcons paced the first quarter although the Wildcats opened up the scoring a minute into the first quarter.  In the first five minutes, Fisher was up 12-7 over Wheelock with an eight-point run from McIntosh.  Wheelock offense was strong, hitting two shots from behind the arc and scoring 18 in the first quarter.  Fisher closed out the first quarter with a 23-18 lead over the Wildcats.

Tables turned in the second quarter as Wheelock outscored the Falcons 21-15.   Wheelock tied the game on a jump shot by Jaime Grzych.  They then took the lead with two made free throws by Gabrielle Haywood.  The Falcons were playing catchup once they lost the lead, but went into the break down one point 39-38.

Brianna Hochwarter led the scoring in the second quarter with six points for the Wildcats.  Murphy Carroll's (Methuen, Mass.) five points wasn't enough for the Falcons to maintain their lead.  Jillian Williams (Berlin, New Hampshire) helped on both ends of the court scoring four points for the Falcons while grabbing six total rebounds in the second quarter.

Wheelock increased their lead right out of the break, but Williams got four quick points to tie the game at 42 apiece.  Madison Carroll (Methuen, Mass.) sunk a three-pointer to take back the lead for the Falcons, 49-46.  A pair of free throws gave the Wildcats the lead back with 1:45 left in the third quarter.  Fisher remained in arms reach of the Wildcats closing out the third quarter 62-59.

Hochwarter led all scoring in the third quarter hitting three shots in the corner to give her a total of nine points.  Michelle Woods was also another dominant force for the Wildcats in the quarter.  Madison Carroll paced the Falcons with six points, with Murphy Carroll and McIntosh helping with five points each.

Madison Carroll took charge in the start of the fourth quarter hitting a three pointer from the corner to give the Falcons a 63-62 lead.  The Falcons opened the fourth quarter with an 8-0 run to go up 67-62 over the Wildcats.  With 6:56 on the clock, Wheelock chipped away at the Falcons lead to come within one 68-67.

The Wildcats again took the lead from the Falcons with over five minutes left in the game.  From that point, the Falcons were unable to regain the lead resulting in an 88-83 loss to the Wildcats.

McIntosh led all scorers with 26 points while grabbing seven rebounds for the Falcons.  Murphy Carroll (22 points, 4 rebounds) and Williams who earned her first double-double (10 points, 12 rebounds) of the season, were also key players for the Falcons.  Hochwarter and Woods who both scored 21 points were key players for the Wildcats in the victory.

Fisher College will have a few days off before returning to action Saturday, December 11 in the Fecteau-Leary Gymnasium in Lynn, Mass.  Tip-off is slated for 12:00 p.m. against the Monks of St. Joseph's College of Maine.
