Women’s basketball closes out semester with loss to SNHU

Manchester, New Hampshire – The Falcon women's basketball team closed out the fall semester with a low point suffering an 87-48 loss to Southern New Hampshire University Saturday.

With the loss, Fisher drops to 2-6 on the season while SNHU improves to 9-2.

The Penmen dominated the Falcons from the start of the contest, scoring 9 points before sophomore Murphy Carroll (Methuen, Massachusetts) netted the first Falcon basket. SNHU continued its hot streak with a 24-4 run to close out the first quarter.

Again in the second quarter, the Falcons struggled to find the net. Aliyanah McIntosh (Brooklyn, New York) and Chrissy Briggs (Rumford, Maine) provided the only two buckets of the period, while the Falcons defense allowed 22 points.

The Falcons trailed 57-11 at the half.

In spite of an uninspiring first half of play the Falcons came out of the break hot, putting up 13 points in the third quarter. McIntosh was responsible for seven points, hitting a three pointer, a jump shot, and a layup.  Twins Madison Carroll (Methuen, Mass.) and Murphy Carroll were responsible for the other six points both hitting shots from behind the arch. At the end of the third quarter the Falcons trailed 74-24.

In the final quarter of the game, the Falcons took charge for the first time outscoring the Penmen 24-13. But it was too little too late as the Falcons trailed 87-48 as time expired.

McIntosh led all scoring with 24 points and five rebounds. Murphy Carroll followed with 14 points and two rebounds. Doherty led the Penmen scoring with 16 points and seven rebounds in their victory.

The Falcons will take a break for the Holidays and return to action on Thursday, January 7 at 5:00 p.m. when they play host to Plymouth State University at Fecteau-Leary Gymnasium. SNHU will return to action January 2 at St. Michael's College at 1:30 p.m.
