Falcons open season with victory

BROOKLYN -- Visiting Fisher College limited Pratt Institute to 21 percent shooting and took a 30-10 lead after the first quarter, too much for the Cannoneers to overcome in both teams' season openers Friday night at the ARC.

Three Falcons scored 19 or more, led by guard Madison Carrol's 20 points on 9-19 shooting. Aliyanah McIntosh added a triple-double of 19 points, 17 rebounds, and 11 steals, and Murphy Carroll led Fisher's efficient free throw brigade with 19 points on a perfect 8-8 clip at the charity stripe.

For Pratt, junior forward Anna Bryce led the team with 16 points, 13 rebounds, and four steals. Freshman center Amissa Epperson also tallied a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds in only 27 minutes, and junior guard Carol Cai added nine points, five boards, and four steals.

A Bryce jumper cut the Falcons lead to 13-8 with 3:33 to play in the first quarter, but a McIntosh layup capped a 17-2 run to close out the frame, as Fisher ended the first leading 30-10. Epperson and Bryce baskets cut the margin to 18 in the final minute of the second quarter before two Murphy Carroll free throws again found the visitors up 20, 42-22, at halftime.

Fisher led by 18 or more the remainder of the contest, scoring the final eight points in its 73-42 win.

Hunter DuVall chipped in with seven rebounds in 23 minutes off the bench for the Cannoneers. The Falcons capitalized at the free throw line, hitting 14-17 (84 percent), while Pratt shot just 8-20 (40 percent).

Fisher College will return to action November 15 at Villa Maria College at 1:00 p.m.
