Women’s Basketball Opens Season with 110-67 Victory

Lynn, Mass. – The Fisher College women's basketball team opened their 2017-2018 season with a 110-67 victory over Vermont Technical College Thursday evening.  The Knights drop to 0-1 on the season with the loss.

The Falcons jumped out to a quick 6-1 advantage, led by Choon-Hee Chae and Madison Carroll before the Knights took an early time out in an attempt to slow the Falcons offense.  Vermont Tech added on two points to cut the Falcon lead to 10-3.   Murphy Carroll and Madison Carroll continued to dominate the court through the remainder of the first quarter for the Falcons, finishing with a 24-18 lead.

After the short break, Chae hit a 3-point shot to put the Falcons up 27-18 only six seconds into the second quarter.  The Falcons then went on a 20-7 run to take a 47-25 lead over the Knights with 5:50 left in the second quarter.  Nia Jordan hit two free throws to give the Falcons a 30-point lead over the Knights.  Time expired with the Falcons up 62-30 going into the half-time break. 

Fisher continued the offensive push, but the Knights wouldn't go down without a fight and cut the Falcons lead to 21 points before Murphy Carroll hit two free throws to go back up 72-49.  A Madison Carroll layup and 5 points from Chae put the Falcons up 79-51 with just :55 left on the clock in the third quarter.  Fisher held onto an 83-51 lead heading into the final quarter.

The Falcons blew open their lead in the fourth and final quarter scoring 27 points over the Knights' 16 points.  After regulation game time, the Falcons took a 110-67 victory over Vermont Tech.

Murphy Carroll led the Falcons offensively with 33 points and 5 rebounds.  Madison Carroll recorded a triple-double with 22 points, 11 assists, and 11 steals.  Chae was also an offensive leader with a double-double with 32 points and 12 rebounds.

Vermont Tech was led offensively by Mariah Rilling with 23 points and 6 rebounds.  Madalyn Leggett added 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Knights. 

The Falcons will return to action on Sunday, November 5 when they head to Machias, Maine to take on the Clippers of the University of Maine at Machias at 12:00 p.m.
