Gyrenes Claim Nest Over Falcons 86-58

Lynn, Mass. – The Fisher College women's basketball team suffered their second loss of the season to the Ave Maria University Gyrenes 86-58 in an NAIA matchup on Wednesday evening.  The Falcons fall to 3-2 on the season while Ave Maria improves to 3-0. 

The first and fourth quarters sealed the victory for the Gyrenese outscoring the Falcons 49-21 in those two particular quarters. 

Ave Maria jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead over the Falcons before Murphy Carroll netted a layup to put Fisher on the board.  Freshman Tiana Bowser cut the Gyrene lead to 5-points with a made layup, 9-4 against the Falcons.

Choon-Hee Chae knotted the game at 16-16 with 3:51 left in the first quarter, but Ave Maria went on a 14-2 run to finish the quarter up 30-18 over the Falcons.  Both teams scored 18 points in the second quarter to finalize the score 48-36 at the half.  The Falcons paced themselves with the Gyrenes eventually taking a 35-34 lead on a Bowser layup and free throw to follow.

Fisher continued to battle in the second half scoring 19 points against Ave Maria's 19 points in the 3rd quarter.  Ave Maria found a groove outscoring the Falcons 19-3 in the final quarter of the game securing their 86-58 victory.

Madison Carroll and Chae paced the way for the Falcons with 15 points apiece grabbing a combined 10 rebounds.  Bowser added 13 points and 7 rebounds in the Falcon loss.  Murphy Carroll (6 points, 4 rebounds), Nia Jordan (3 points), and Jocelyn Mendoza (3 points, 7 rebounds) were other key Falcons in the NAIA matchup.

Fisher has a couple of days to regroup before heading to Waterville, Maine for the Thomas Tip-Off Classic.  The Falcons first game of the classic will be on Saturday, November 18 at 7:30 p.m. against the University of Maine at Farmington.
