Madison Carroll Hits 1,000 Points in 96-79 Loss

Lynn, Mass. – The Fisher College Falcons drop to 4-4 on the season after the NAIA-NCAA cross matchup with UMass Boston on Tuesday evening.  The Beacons defeated the hosting Falcons 96-79.

UMass jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead over the Falcons in the opening minutes of the first quarter.  Murphy Carroll started the Falcons offense with a layup, 3-2 in favor of the Beacons.  At the 6:34 mark in the first quarter, Madison Carroll was fouled by Katie Mathieu forcing two free throws.  Madison Carroll, two points shy from 1,000, hit both shots reaching the milestone. 

The Falcons were able to tie the game at 9-9 with 5:24 left in the first.  The Beacons closed out the first quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 30-23 lead over the Falcons.

Fisher scored first in the second half on a layup by Murphy Carroll.  Choone-Hee Chae brought the Falcons back within two points on a shot from behind the arc, bringing the score to 32-28 in favor of UMass.  The Beacons continued to pressure the Falcons closing out the half with a 55-41 lead over Fisher.

Fisher remained in the game for the second half, but the Beacons strong defense made it impossible for Fisher to come back.  The Beacons took the victory 96-79 over the Falcons.

Madison Carroll paced the Falcons with a game-high 22 points and 5 rebounds.  Murphy Carroll added 20 points and 6 rebounds while Chae added a double-double with 12 points, 10 assists, and 3 rebounds. 

Megan Dixon and Joey Grassi led the Beacons with double-doubles of 21 points apiece and 10 rebounds and 12 rebounds, respectively.  Geanna Williams helped the UMass offense with 14 points and 5 offensive rebounds.

The Falcons will have a few days off for the holiday break before returning to action on Monday, November 27 when they head to UMass Lowell.  The exhibition game will start at 7:00 p.m.
