Vikings Squeak by Falcons 71-68

DELHI, N.Y. -- Fisher College women's basketball faced off against Villa Maria on Saturday, November 11 at a neutral site of SUNY Delhi. Fisher Falcons currently (2-0) on the season were seeking to remain undefeated against Villa Maria (1-1).

 

Villa Marie came out of the gate roaring with a 12-0 run, but the Falcons couldn't buy a basket until 5:21 remaining in the 1st quarter. Madison Carroll put the Falcons on the board with a jump shot, then immediately hits a 3-pointer cutting the Viking lead to 14-5. The Falcons then began their own run when Tiana Bowser hit a jump shot followed by a Chae Choon-Hee 3-pointer. Fisher then went on a 15-0 run to end the first quarter taking a 20-14 lead.

    

The second quarter kicked off with Villa Maria sinking the first two baskets, but the Falcons quickly countered with 3-pointer from Murphy Carroll.  After back and forth scoring, Villa Maria cut the Falcons lead to 1-point, 30-29.  The Falcons quickly countered with a 7-0 run heading into halftime with an 11-point lead over Villa Maria, 42-31.

  

Coming out of halftime, Fisher increased their lead; however, Villa Maria went on a 9-0 run to shorten the Falcons lead. Entering the 4th quarter, both teams battled creating an intense game. Villa Marie took the lead, but Fisher came back to tie the game.  With 9 seconds to go in the game, Villa Maria is up 3-points with the Falcons in possession of the ball.  Murphy Carroll shoots a 3-pointer to tie the game, but just misses it at the buzzer.  Villa Maria earned the victory 71-68.

 

Madison Carroll paced Fisher with 21 points and 5 rebounds while twin sister Murphy Carroll added 17 points and 6 rebounds. Villa Maria Shaquanna Qwens led all scorers with 29 points and 13 rebounds. Bianca brown also contributed 14 points and 11 rebound in their win.   

 

Fisher will return to action Sunday, November 12 against host SUNY Delhi Broncos at 12:00 p.m.
