Women's Basketball Are Off To A 2-0 Start After Defeating University of Maine-Fort Kent, 77-67

Buffalo, NY- The women's basketball season is underway and the Falcons are now 2-0 after sweeping the Villa Maria Tip-Off Classic defeating the University of Maine-Fort Kent (1-1) Saturday afternoon, 77-67.

The Falcons started off slowly offensively as the Bengals jumped out to a 20-14 lead after the first quarter, shooting just 33% from the floor.  However, the Falcons shooters started to get hot in the second, improving to a 46% shooting percentage, and took a 36-35 lead heading into halftime.  Fisher did not let up the pressure and continued to outshoot the Bengals leading by seven heading into the fourth quarter.  Fort Kent were relentless defensively, forcing 20 Falcons turnovers, but Fisher put the game out of reach, shooting 50% from the floor in the fourth quarter.  The Falcons also out-rebounded the Bengals 47-37, including 13 offensive rebounds.

Junior Vivian Lara (Norwalk, CA) had a double-double and led all scorers on the afternoon with 34 points and 10 rebounds, shooting an impressive 11 for 15 in field goals, including five 3-pointers to help lead her team to their second straight victory.  Kellie Gaston (Tampa, FL) continued to shoot well and tacked on another 24 points to her season total, giving her 43 points over the weekend.  Shaniah Hazard continued her dominance under the rim as she grabbed another 14 caroms to lead the Falcons in rebounds on the afternoon.

The Lady Falcons return to action on Wednesday November 7th for their home opener against University of Maine-Machias with a game time slated for 5pm at the Fecteau-Leary Gymnasium in Lynn, MA.
