Fisher Defense Stymies The Panthers To Secure Their Eighth Win Of The Season

Boston, MA- The Fisher Women's Basketball continues its strong play as they defeated the visiting Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Panthers (1-8) this afternoon 72-36.  The Falcons defense was the difference in the contest as ACPHS had trouble creating shots around the swarming Falcons defenders, holding their opponents to just 26% shooting in the win.

Each team got off to a slow start from the jump as the two teams combined for just a 17% shooting percentage in the first ten minutes, while only scoring 14 points as the Falcons led 12-2 at the end of the first quarter.  Fisher started the second quarter with a 10-0 run as the shooting started to come around giving the home team a 22-4 lead, but ACPHS responded with their own 10-0 run to put them back in the game at 22-14 with 3:24 left before halftime.  The Panthers would get as close as six points to the lead, but trailed the Falcons at the break 30-20.

The Falcons took control in the second half as not only did their shooting continue to improve but they allowed just four made field goals in the entire second half, holding the Panthers to just 16 points, seven of which coming from the charity stripe.  The defense also forced seven Panther turnovers while grabbing six steals in the last 20 minutes to help secure the home victory.

Kellie Gaston (Tampa, FL) led all scorers this afternoon tallying 20 points in the win to go along with five assists and six rebounds.  Jenny-Lynn Eggers (Sonoma, CA) played well for the Falcons as she notched her first double-double of her Falcons career with 16 points and 12 boards. Vivian Lara (Norwalk, CA) was the other Falcon to score in double figures on the afternoon as she had 13 points for her team while adding another three steals to her team leading total of 25. Jocelyn Mendoza (Morgan Hill, CA) was productive under the rim as she had a game high 12 rebounds, while adding a pair of steals in the win.  ACPHS was led by Emma Webster who had 16 points in the losing effort.

The Lady Falcons will head up to the University of Maine-Machias on Wednesday, December 12 for a 5:30pm game, a team they defeated once this season back on November 7th by a score of 81-55.
