Babson Park, FL- The Women's Basketball team kick-started their four game stretch in Florida tonight as they took on Webber International (6-7) at the Sabbagh Athletic Center. The Falcons came up short though, as they fell to the Warriors 76-53 to fall to 9-3 this season. Junior Vivian Lara (Norwalk, CA) led all scorers tonight with 21, but it was not enough to carry the team as they dropped two in a row for the first time this season.
The two teams went head to head in the first quarter as the score remained close in the first eight minutes of play, but Webber's Breyonna Reed scored two jumpers in the last minute to put her team up 18-10 after 10 minutes of play. A Jocelyn Mendoza (Morgan Hill, CA) bucket and a pair of free throws from Lara brought the Falcons within five in the second quarter at 14-19, but a 10-0 run over the next three minutes from the Warriors put them up 29-14. Each team exchanged baskets the last five minutes of the second quarter allowing Webber to maintain a 41-24 lead heading into halftime.
The Falcons came out of the break and played well into the third quarter outscoring their opponent 19-15 leaving them down just 56-43 with ten minutes remaining. A Shaniah Hazard (Providence, RI) three-pointer into the fourth brought her team within ten at 56-46, but that was the closest the Falcons could get as the Warriors outscored them 20-10 in the fourth quarter to claim the victory.
Lara led all players with 21 points and seven rebounds in the losing effort, while Hazard tallied nine points and four rebounds. Jenny-Lynn Eggers (Sonoma, CA) played well on the defensive side of the ball for the Falcons as she collected a season-high six steals while grabbing seven rebounds. Taniya Patrick led the Warriors with 19 points, eight rebounds and three blocks to help lead her team to the victory.
The Falcons are back at it tomorrow as they face off against Warner College at 2pm as they look to get back into the win column.
