The Lady Falcons Drop Two In A Row To The Gyrenes

Ave Maria, FL- The Falcons finished up their four-game trip to Florida with back-to-back games against the host Ave Maria University Gyrenes (13-2) this afternoon. It was the fourth game in five days, and the Falcons could not finish up their road trip with a win as they were defeated by AMU, 77-36 at the Tom Golisano Field House in Ave Maria, FL. Shooting percentage was a factor again for the Falcons as the team shot just 22% (13 for 59) from the floor in the loss. In the last five games, the Falcons are 1-4 and are shooting just 27% so they will look to re-group as they head back to Boston with a 10-5 record.

The Gyrenes came out hot right from the tip-off as they took a 15-0 lead after 5:30 minutes of play and never trailed for the rest of the contest as they took a 40-13 lead into halftime. Vivian Lara (Norwalk, CA) led the Falcons in the first half with six points and four rebounds. Coach Ford and his squad tried to claw back in the second half as they nearly doubled their point total in the second half, but it was not enough for the comeback as they fell to the host, 77-36. The Gyrenes were strong under the basket for the second straight game as they got to the line 25 times to the Falcons 10, while outrebounding the Falcons 54-27.

Kellie Gaston (Tampa, FL) had a strong second half for her squad as all 12 her total points came in the second frame. Jenny-Lynn Eggers (Sonoma, CA) was the leader defensively for the Falcons as she grabbed eight boards and two steals in the losing effort. Danielle Weinmann and Sarah Miller led the way for AMU for the second straight day as they combined for 30 points and 18 rebounds. Miller tallied her 11th double-double of the season in the victory.

Fisher will head back North and will look to get back in the win column as they take on Indiana University Northwest this Friday, January 4th at 7:30pm at the Winsor School in Boston.
