Lady Falcons Hit The Century Mark For The First Time This Season With A Win Over Vermont Tech

Concord, NH- The Lady Falcons headed north for the weekend to New Hampshire Technical Institute for the Edward Jones Winter Fest Classic as they took on the Vermont Tech Knights (8-6) this afternoon. After NHTI took the win in the 1pm game over the Bristol Community College Bayhawks, the Falcons took the victory in the second game of the day defeating VTC, 103-42. The 103 points was the highest output for the Falcons this season as it was the first time the team hit the century mark in 19 games. The win is the second in a row for the Falcons bringing their season record to 12-7.

The game started out slowly for both teams as neither team notched a basket until Piper Mali (Oro Valley, AZ) hit a pair of free throws at the 7:25 mark to go up 2-0. A Knights 3-pointer just 13 seconds later gave VTC their first and only lead of the game at 3-2 as the Falcons did not trail the rest of the contest. The Knights remained close after the first quarter as the Falcons were up 20-11 after one frame, however a red-hot second quarter proved to be the difference. Fisher shot an impressive 68% from the floor in the second frame, outscoring the Knights 34-12 as the two teams headed into the break with the Falcons up 54-23. The hot shooting continued in the second half and the Knights could need keep up as the Falcons held their opponents to just 19 points in the last two quarters. The Falcons shot a season high 51% from the floor, hitting 40 out of 78 shots, including eight 3-pointers, while holding the Knights to a 24% shooting percentage. Fisher was also dominant under the boards in the win as they outrebounded the Knights 56-32.

Coach Jesse Ford saw contribution from his entire team in the victory as every player notched a stat on the sheet this afternoon. The bench was also very productive as they outscored the Knights 48-0. Vivian Lara (Norwalk, CA) led all scorers with 23 points, while adding seven rebounds and seven steals in the win. Four other Falcons tallied double figures in the win as Shaniah Hazard (Providence, RI) had 13 points and six rebounds, while Jenny-Lynn Eggers (Sonoma, CA) and Kellie Gaston (Tampa, FL) each contributed with 12 points a piece, and newcomer Tiana Bowser (Newark, NJ) earned her first points of the season as she tallied 10. Maura Lammers (Augusta, GA) led the Falcons under the basket as she had a team-high eight rebounds, a season-high for the sophomore. Sabreana Hardemon led the Knights with 14 points, while Kennethia Gilford had a strong game dropping nine points and collecting 13 rebounds in the losing effort.

The Edward Jones Winter Fest Classic continues tomorrow as Vermont Tech and Bristol face off at 11am with the Falcons taking on the host NHTI in the 1pm slot.
