Weekly Preview - Women's Basketball Takes On Boston's Emerson and Simmons

Boston, MA- The Women's Basketball team are coming off a strong showing over the weekend as they finished 2-0 at the Edward Jones Winter Fest Classic at NHTI. The Falcons also surpassed the century mark for the first time this season in the victory over the Vermont Tech Knights, winning 103-42. On Sunday, the team faced the host school NHTI Lynx in what was an exhibition game, defeating the Lynx 85-66. Fisher has now won three in a row after beating the Pine Manor Gators last week, 59-39. The team has also improved their shooting over the last three games as they have shot 40% as a team from the floor while holding their opponents to average of 49 points in the three wins.

Over the past three contests, Coach Ford has seen double digit production from six different players; Tiana Bowser (Newark, NJ), Choon-Hee Chae (Kyle, TX), Jenny Lynn Eggers (Sonoma, CA), Kellie Gaston (Tampa, FL), Shaniah Hazard (Providence, RI) and Vivian Lara (Norwalk, CA). Eggers, Gaston and Lara all hit double digits in all three contests, while Gaston and Lara both had games of 20+ points. Gaston has averaged 19.3 ppg in the last three, while Lara has averaged 18.0 ppg while collecting 24 rebounds and 14 steals in that stretch. Lara currently leads the A.I.I. in scoring as she averages 17.3 ppg and is fourth in the conference in steals per game with 2.58. The team is currently averaging 64.0 points per game while holding their opponents to 56.6 over the 12-7 season.

The Falcons head across town this week to face the Emerson Lions on Wednesday, and then to the Simmons Sharks on Saturday. The Lions defeated the Sharks earlier this season 78-41.

Wednesday, January 16th - Emerson Lions

The Lions are currently 9-6 on the season, while holding a 4-3 record in the competitive NEWMAC conference. They are coming off their most recent 79-36 win over the Mount Holyoke Lyons on Saturday January 12th. All five of the Lions starters scored in double figures in the win, including a 17-point performance from Sam Boyle (Scotts Valley, CA), just shy of her season high of 20. Overall, her older sister Charlie Boyle (Scotts Valley, CA) leads the way offensively for her squad as she averages 12.3 ppg while grabbing 4.9 rebounds per contest, which is good for second. Sam Boyle is just behind her sister in scoring with 10.3 ppg and 4.7 rpg. Natalie Clydesdale (Pittsburgh, PA) has played well defensively for the Lions as she leads the team in rebounds with 6.3 rpg and 1.7 steals per contest. As a team the Lions are shooting a strong 42.1% from the floor and average 66.9 points per game, while holding their opponents to 56.3 points per game.

Saturday, January 19th - Simmons Sharks

The Simmons Sharks are off to a 4-10 start this season, while holding a 1-1 record in the GNAC Conference. After returning from the Holiday break, the Sharks are 1-3 in January, with their most recent victory coming against the Lasell Lasers on Tuesday, January 8th. Cassandra Stapelfeld (Brookline, NH) led all scorers in the victory as she tallied 21 points while grabbing three rebounds. She currently leads her team in scoring as she averages 20.6 points and 1.7 steals per game, good for 4th in the GNAC. She has had seven games in which she has scored more than 20 points, including a 35-point performance over Medgar Evers. Molly Phillips (Cranston, RI) and Rebekah Carroll (Londonderry, NH) are the two other Sharks averaging in double figures, with 10.5 and 10.1 points per game respectively. Lauren Brandau (Madison, CT) has been the leader on the boards for her team as she averages 6.8 boards per contest. The Sharks are currently shooting 35.3% from the floor and scoring 62.4 points per game, while their opponents are averaging 66.1.
