Gaston Tallies 24 Points To Lead The Falcons To Their 15th Win

Waterville, ME- The Lady Falcons found themselves down after two quarters, but a strong third quarter in which the Falcons shot 50% from the floor helped propel the Falcons to their 15th win of the season. Junior Kellie Gaston (Tampa, FL) led all scorers with 24 points in the 64-46 victory at the Larry Mahaney Gymnasium on Wednesday evening.

Neither team could get much going offensively in the first quarter as the two teams combined for just 20 points on 5 for 26 shooting as Thomas led 11-9 after the first ten minutes of play. The shooting woes continued into the second quarter for both the Falcons and the Terriers as the shooting percentage in the second quarter was just 23%. The Falcons looked to take the lead into the locker room as they went up 20-16 after a Shaniah Hazard (Providence, RI) lay-up, but the Terriers answered and closed out the half on a 7-0 run to take the lead 23-20.

The Falcons tied it up 23-23 out of the break on a Jenny-Lynn Eggers (Sonoma, CA) three-pointer, and took their first lead of the third quarter after Vivian Lara (Norwalk, CA) hit from behind the arc to put her squad up 30-27 with 5:19 remaining in the third. Another three from Choon-Hee Chae (Kyle, TX) sparked a 7-0 run that gave the Falcons their biggest lead of the game, going up 37-29 and forcing a Terriers time out. TC responded with their own three-pointer out of the time out getting them back to within five at 37-32, but the Falcons closed out the third quarter with eight straight points, including six from Gaston, to take a 45-32 lead into the fourth. Fisher stayed hot in the fourth, starting the quarter with a 9-3 run, capped by back-to-back shots from Hazard to go up 56-35 with 6:24 on the clock. Thomas would cut the lead to 14 at the 4:15 mark after a pair of free throws, but that's as close as the hosts would get as Fisher would hold on for the 64-46 road victory.

Aside from Gaston's 24 points, she also contributed six rebounds and three steals. Lara had her streak of games with 20+ points end at four as she chipped in with nine points, nine boards and a pair of steals. Eggers and Chae combined for 17 points and nine boards, while Shurelle Butler (Highlands, TX) had a team-high three offensive rebounds in the victory.

Addie Brinkman and Karli Stubbs led the way for the Terriers as they combined for 26 points on 42% shooting from the floor. Molly Carroll had a team-high six rebounds in the losing effort.

The Falcons have the weekend off and will head up to the University of Saint Joseph (VT) with the men's team to face the Fighting Saints in a doubleheader. The women kick off the action at 5pm with the men to follow at 7pm.
