Lady Falcons Hold Off The Bobcats For Their Fifth Win

Lynn, MA - The Women's Basketball team are now back to .500, defeating the Bryant & Stratton-Albany Bobcats 50-44 in a non-conference matchup at Fecteau-Leary Gymnasium on Friday evening. The Falcons overcame an offensive struggle, shooting just 17.9% from the floor, using their swarming defense, forcing 25 BSC turnovers, to claim the victory. With the win the Falcons improve to 5-5, while the Bobcats drop to 2-4 on the season.

With both teams struggling to get the ball in the bucket early on, the score was just 20-13 after two full quarters. Lauren Allen (Long Beach, CA) led the way in the first 20 minutes, tallying six points in the first two stanzas. The Bobcats surged in the third though, outscoring FC 14-9, finding themselves down by just two after three full.

The offense came alive for both teams in the fourth to make it an exciting game down the stretch. The Falcons started strong in the 4th as Misha O'Neal (Tampa, FL) drained a three to put her team up by five less than a minute into the final quarter. BSC responded with a 6-0 run capped by a Kori Hardee jumpshot to take their first lead of the game, 33-32 with 6:12 showing on the clock. Shaniah Hazard (Providence, RI) broke the Bobcats scoring streak with her first two points of the game to regain the lead. Back-to-back field goals from Vivian Lara (Norwalk, CA) pushed the home team's lead back to four, and after nailing a pair of free throws earned from a Bobcats technical foul, Lara gave the Falcons the cushion they needed, putting them up 43-37 with 3:30 left to play. The Bobcats got to within four on a pair of free throws from Kiara Sweeney with 2:19 remaining, but a key steal from Piper Mali (Oro Valley, AZ) and Lara's six additional points in the last remaining seconds were the difference as the Falcons held on for the 50-44 victory.

Lara led all scorers with 15 points, 13 coming in the 4th, while adding eight rebounds and a pair of steals. O'Neal was the other Falcon to score in double figures as she knocked down three 3's and a free throw for 10 points. Jenny-Lynn Eggers (Sonoma, CA) was huge defensively, grabbing 11 boards, three steals, and two blocks in the win. Lauren Feldman and Sweeney led the way for the Bobcats as they each contributed in double figures, scoring 12 and 11 points respectively, while Sweeney finished with a double-double adding 10 boards in the losing effort.

The Falcons are back in action tomorrow as they play host to the Berkeley College (NY) Knights at the Winsor School with the game slated for a 2pm start.
