Fisher women's soccer team falls 8-3 at Mitchell

NEW LONDON, Connecticut-The Fisher College women's soccer team dropped their second straight game of the season 8-3 Saturday afternoon to Mitchell College.

Hat tricks by Mitchell's Alexandra Mehar (Watertown, Connecticut) and Christina Jando (Naugatuck, Connecticut) powered the Mariners past the Falcons for their first win of the season.
With the loss, the Falcons drop to 2-2 on the season, while the Mariners improve to 1-2-2.

Mitchell jumped out to an early lead with Mahar working two goals and an assist in the first half.
Although they were down 3-0 at the break, the Falcons rallied to make things interesting.

Sophomore forward Julia Schojan (Greece, New York) broke through Mitchell's defense and slipped a pass to freshman midfielder Amanda Santiago who netted the Falcons' first goal of the day.
In the 73rd minute, senior midfielder Ashley De Sousa netted a ball from the top of the box to cut the deficit to 3-2.  But, the Mariners responded quickly, scoring three times over the next seven minutes to put the game out of reach.

Mahar completed her hat trick in the 75th minute and then assisted on Jando's first goal in the 79th. Jando's first two scores came 31 seconds apart leaving Mitchell with a 6-2 cushion.
De Sousa finished off a give-and-go with Santiago for Fisher's final goal in the 84th minute, but Mitchell tacked on a pair of insurance goals in the waning moments.

De Sousa scored a pair of goals and Fisher's Amanda Santiago (Saugus,California) recorded a goal and an assist in the loss.

Mahar finished with three assists to go with her three scores, and Vannessa Ortiz (Anitoch, California) and Jacquelyn White (Danville, Vermont) also netted goals to fuel the Mitchell attack.
