Owls Protect Their Nest with 5-2 Victory

PRESQUE ISLE – The Owl's women's soccer team delivered a 5-2 over Fisher College during Homecoming Weekend.

The Maine-Presque Isle team put pressure on the Falcons early and often. Despite outshooting their opponents 13-2 in the first half, and getting some great looks at goal, it seemed as though the Owls were going to settle for a draw at the half. With just 3:34 left before the break, the home team finally put one on the board as Sam Nadeau (St. David, Maine) converted on a beautiful assist from Jessy Dickion (Houlton, Maine). The second half started with more of the same, with the Owls putting together some great opportunities to score. Janae Libby (Fort Fairfield, Maine) would score twice, both assisted by Holli Boyce (Stonington, Maine), and Nadeau would get an assist from Autumn Poulin (Winslow, Maine) to score her second goal of the game. The visiting team did manage to score two goals, but their comeback attempt was squashed, as Bethany Heald (Enfield, Maine) tacked on an insurance goal to put the game out of reach.

"That was a solid team result," Head Coach Trevor Parent said afterward. "Defensively we were very good. Yes, there were moments when we had a bit of a hiccup, but we did well with our structure, our back tackling was very good. Our runs up top were very good, especially after the break, our girls made runs, getting behind the offside trap. In general, two home results in a row is a positive and we are looking forward to preparing for Maine - Machias."

The Owls will host the University of Maine at Machias on Wednesday, September 23. The game time has been changed to 6:30 p.m. and the game will be played at the Presque Isle Middle School field.
