Women’s Soccer Soars over Valley Forge

Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. – An aggressive offensive attack propelled the Fisher women's soccer team to a 9-2 Columbus Day victory from the University of Valley Forge on Monday. 

 

With the win, the Falcons improve to 8-4 on the season while the Patriots drop to 0-12 on the season.

 

Fisher peppered the Valley Forge defense from the start, taking three shots in the game's opening minutes.

 

The offensive pressure produced cracks in the Valley Forge defense early as midfielder Ashley DeSousa (Hazlet, New Jersey ) netted the ball past the Patriot goalie in the 6th minute with assists from Victoria Park (Lynn, Massachusetts) and Julia Schojan (Rochester, New York). 

 

At the 9:14 mark, Schojan increased the Falcon lead to 2-0, opening the flood gate for the Falcons.  Half a minute later, DeSousa added a Fisher goal to change the score to 3-0. 

 

Shortly before the 12th minute, Valley Forge was able to dribble past the Falcons' defense and score to cut the Fisher lead to 3-1.

 

Before the first half concluded, Falcon forward Madison O'Brien (Shrewsbury, Massachusetts) worked a hat trick while Mariah Teixeira (Berkley, Massachusetts) and DeSousa netted a ball each to put the Falcons up 8-1 putting the game out of reach

 

The second half was much slower paced than the first half with both teams only scoring one goal each. 

 

Valley Forge cut the Falcon lead with a goal 20 minutes into the second half.  O'Brien netted the final goal of the game, pushing the score to 9-2.

 

Falcon sophomore goalie Paige Ciavarro (Lynnfield, Massachusetts) earned her eighth victory this season with one save in three shots on goal.

 

The Falcons return to action Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 4 p.m. in the first game of a double header against Vermont Technical College at Hormel Stadium in Medford, Massachusetts.
