Women’s Soccer Stumps WAU, 5-3

Takoma Park, Maryland – A flock of Falcons contributed to the Falcon offensive attack Saturday, powering the Fisher College women's soccer team past conference opponent Washington Adventist University Saturday.

With the win, the Falcons improve to 7-4. WAU, meanwhile, fell to 3-8-1 with the defeat.

The Fisher offense didn't waste time turning up the heat on the Shock as Ashley DeSousa (Hazlet, New Jersey) netted the first Falcon goal 1:17 into the game.

DeSousa dodged defenders, dribbled the ball into the six and took a successful shot for a 1-0 lead.

Julia Schojan (Rochester, New York) added to the Falcon lead on a pass from DeSousa outside the box.

Schojan dribbled it to the six and put the ball in the back of the net to put Fisher up 2-0 with under 15 minutes played in the half.

WAU battled back in the 14th and 21st minutes to put two goals past sophomore goalie Paige Ciavarro (Lynnfield, Massachusetts), to work the score back even at 2-2.

But the Falcon offense kept up the pressure on the Shock defense. Amanda Santiago (Saugus, California) netted Fisher's third goal on a pass from Schojan on the left side to the center, retaking the Falcon lead 3-2.

The Falcons would not relinquish the lead again as their hot offensive streak continued into the second half.
Schojan scored her second goal eight minutes after the break on a pass from Holly Lesperance (Litchfield, New Hampshire) to extend the Falcon lead to 4-2.

Lesperance took the last goal upon herself in the 69th minute to give Fisher the game with a 5-2 lead.

With time winding down, WAU managed to dodge Fisher's defense and put a shot past Ciavarro to cut the lead to 5-3. But it proved too little, too late as the Falcons took the victory 5-3.

Ciavarro earned the win in net for the Falcons with eight saves with 11 shots on goal.  The Falcons outshot the Shock 26-21 in the win.

Fisher will return to action Monday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m. when they face the University of Valley Forge in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania.
