Schojan’s Five Goals Dominate Vermont Tech

Medford, Massachusetts – The Fisher College women's soccer team continued its hot offensive streak with a 10-0 drubbing of Vermont Technical College Wednesday.

 

Sophomore forward Julia Schojan (Rochester, N.Y.) was the dominant force for the Falcons in the NAIA-YSCAA matchup.

 

With the shutout win, the Falcons improve to 9-4 on the season and extend their current win streak to six games. The Knights dropped to 1-12 with the loss.

 

The Falcon offense was active early as freshman forward Madison O'Brien (Shrewsbury, Massachusetts) opened up the scoring on a pass from Schojan in the sixth minute.

 

Less than a minute later, senior midfielder Ashley De Sousa (Hazlet, New Jersey) punted a corner kick in front of the net where Chrissy Briggs (Rumford, Maine) headed the ball in past the Knight defense to push the game to 2-0.

 

In the 15th minute, Schojan scored her first goal of the game dribbling the ball from midfield, past defenders, and into the back of the net.

 

De Sousa added another goal moments later for the Falcons to increase the score to 4-0 in Fisher's favor.

 

The Falcons' offense continued to pressure the Knights, adding another goal from Jade Bracero (Hoboken, New Jersey) to advance their lead to 5-0 half. In the first half, Fisher dominated the Knights outshooting the visitors 15-2.

 

Schojan took control in the second half, scoring four of the five goals in the half. In the 52nd minute O'Brien dribbled the ball down the right sideline crossing it over to Schojan who tapped the ball by the Knights goalie. 

 

Five minutes later, Knights defenders deflected a kick allowing Schojan to capitalize for the Falcons, chipping the ball over the keeper's head. In the 62nd and 71st minutes, Schojan scored unassisted put the Falcons up 9-0. 

 

With 46 seconds to play, O'Brien iced the game with the Falcons tenth goal.

 

Sophomore keeper Paige Ciavarro earned the shutout in net with one save in one shot on goal for the Knights.  The Falcons had a total of 35 shots with 23 shots on goal in the victory.

 

The Falcons will return to action versus the University of Maine-Presque Isle in their "senior day" game at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17 at Medford High School in Medford, Massachusetts.
