Women’s Soccer Drops Home Opener

Boston – The Fisher College women's soccer team opened their season on Wednesday August 31 at 1:00 p.m.  However, the Falcons dropped their home opener to A.I.I. conference opponent Johnson & Whales University of Colorado (JWU) by a score of 11-1.

Junior midfielder Holly Lesperance (Litchfield, N.H.) was the lone scorer for the Falcons netting the goal in the 19th minute of play.  Lesperance received a foul above the 20 yard line and as she took the free kick, she was able to place the ball just out of reach of the goalie.

Although the Falcons battled, they weren't able to stop the offense of the Wildcats.  Three of the JWU players scored two goals apiece while five others tacked on goals. Unfortunately, the Falcons were down one player on the field to start the game due transfer players' pending eligibility.  A few minutes before the end of the first half, Lesperence was taking out of the game for precautionary after taking a rough hit.

Paige Ciavarro took the loss in the net, but worked hard to manage 16 saves and only allowing 11 perfectly placed goals.  Victoria Diaz of JWU earned the victory in the net only allowing the one Falcon goal with only one shot on goal.

The Falcons look to redeem themselves Thursday September 1, at 1:00 p.m. when they host the Wildcats of Wheelock College at Hormel Stadium in Medford, Mass.  JWU will travel to their sister school in Providence, Rhode Island to play in the JWU Cup and take on their other sister school from Miami, Florida on Friday September 2.
