Boston – Junior midfielder Holly Lesperance scored the lone goal for the Falcons against Rhode Island College (RIC) off of a penalty kick in the first half.  RIC and Fisher College faced off Saturday afternoon in an NAIA-NCAA cross matchup where the Anchormen took a 5-1 victory over the Falcons.

The first goal of the game came in the ninth minute when a RIC player kicked a ball that was deflected off of a Fisher defender which led to Jacklyn Greenman dribbling to the left side and scoring; Anchormen 1-0.  Both teams battled for a solid twenty minutes before the second goal of the game was scored on an unlucky bounce.  A corner kick was granted for RIC and the Falcon goalkeeper Paige Ciavarro deflected the ball, but it took an unlucky bounce behind the goal line to give RIC a 2-0 lead.

In the 35th minute, Julia Schojan was fouled in the box which earned RIC player Amber-Marie Francois a yellow card.  Schojan was unable to take the penalty kick at the time as she walked off the field with the trainer, but later returned.  Lesperance stepped in and took the shot placing the ball right out of reach of the goalie and cutting the Falcon deficit to 2-1.

Heading into half time, the Anchormen had a solid 3-1 lead over the Falcons.  The last goal of the half came in the 39th minute.  Although the Falcons started slow, RIC only outshot Fisher 30-22 in the first half.

The Anchorman offense tested the Fisher defense putting the pressure on right out of the break.  The tactic proved to work when RIC scored their fourth goal of the game in the 56th minute to take a 4-1 lead.  Fisher tried to prevail and pressured the Anchormen, but it wasn't enough to get a shot past the goalkeeper.  In the 85th minute, the final goal of the game was netted just over Ciavarro to seal the 5-1 victory over the Falcons. 

Ciavarro took her second loss in net saving fifteen shots with twenty shots on goal and allowing five goals.  Francois took the victory in net making four saves with five shots on goal and only allowing the one goal off of the penalty shot.   

Fisher College will have a few days rest and play host to Becker College on Thursday, September 8 at Hormel Stadium in Medford, Mass.  First kick is slated for 6:00 p.m.  Rhode Island College will travel to Salve Regina University on Tuesday, September 6 for a 3:30 p.m. matchup.
