Fisher Falls to Becker in Nail-Biter 7-6

Medford, Mass – The Fisher College women's soccer team took on Becker College on Thursday evening at Hormel Stadium in an NAIA-NCAA cross match-up.  The Hawks claimed the nest by defeating the Falcons by a final score of 7-6.

Becker College opened the scoring with Lindsey Keith (Sutton, Mass.) dribbling the ball and netting the shot to take a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute of the game.  Fisher College's junior forward Julia Schojan (Rochester, N.Y.) took a shot that the goalie could not control which led to her controlling the ball and shooting again into an open net, balancing the score 1-1 just ten minutes later.

Seven minutes later, the Hawks were able to take a 2-1 lead with Lauren Zaleski (Avon, Mass.) crossing to Keith who netted the shot.  Hawk player Solene Ndahiro (Kigali City, Rwanda) increased the Becker lead scoring the third goal assisted by Zaleski to give them a 3-1 lead.  Fisher continued to battle and their efforts payed off when sophomore Maya Stephen (Greenacres, Fla.) scored after quick touches by Holly Lesperance (Litchfield, N.H.) and Amanda Santiago (Saugus, Calif.) to change the score to 3-2.

Santiago and Lesperance worked together to net another goal to knot the game 3-3 in the 42nd minute.  Time expired before either team could net another shot, concluding the first half with the score frozen at 3-3.

Becker dominated the second half with Keith earning herself a hat-trick and scoring her third goal of the game right out of the break to put the Hawks up 4-3.  Not long after, Maria Colon (Wharton, N.J.) took a hard shot from the 30 yard line causing the Fisher goalie to misstep letting the ball touch the back of the net giving Becker a 5-3 lead.

Keith scored again in the 53rd minute for her fourth goal of the game putting the Hawks up 6-3 over the Falcons.  Schojan and the Falcons continued to battle with the Becker defense and goalie, eventually pulling the goalie out of the net and shooting a ball right by her to decrease the Hawks lead to 6-4.

For the next twenty minutes, both teams continued to battle, but Becker's Ciara McKissick (Charlton, Mass.) took a successful shot to give the team a 7-4 lead over the Falcons.

With just 13 minutes left to play, Becker played comfortably which allowed Schojan to also earn a hat-trick in the 88th minute.  Not even one minute later Schojan netted another goal to bring the Falcons within one of the Hawks, 7-6, with just 25 seconds left.  Time expired quickly finalizing the game with a score of 7-6 in Becker's favor.

Jordyn Martel (Chicopee, Mass.) earned the victory in the net for the Hawks making six saves and allowing six goals with 12 total shots on goal.  Paige Ciavarro (Lynnfield, Mass.) took the loss making 17 saves and allowed only seven goals with 24 shots on goal.
