Fisher Victorious in Battle of the Birds

MEDFORD, Mass. - Fisher junior Julia Schojan (Rochester, N.Y.) would score a hat trick, leading the Falcons to a 5-1 victory over the Nighthawks on Wednesday night at Hormel Stadium in Medford.

Just five minutes into the game, Schojan would break through for the Falcons putting Fisher College ahead 1-0.

The Falcons would add two more, starting in the 20th minute, on a goal by Rhealynn Ochoa (St. Lemoore, Calif.) and then again, just a minute later on a goal by junior Holly Lesperance (Litchfield, N.H.), taking the 3-0 lead.

The Nighthawks would get one back before halftime thanks to junior Shannon Walsh (Massapequa, N.Y.) who cut the Falcons lead to 3-1 in the 32nd minute, on her third goal of the season.

After a scoreless opening 28 minutes of the second half, Schojan would score her final two goals, 2:30 apart, giving her the hat trick and her team the 5-1 victory.

Offensive opportunities were hard to come by for both teams, who combined for 19 total shots and 13 shots on goal. However, physicality was at a higher for Fisher, who commited 16 fouls and was booked three times with yellow cards; Newbury commited just five fouls, but was booked late in the match as well.

The Falcons are back in action Saturday afternoon when they take on the Bengals of the University of Maine at Fort Kent in a weekend trip.  Sunday they will take on the University of Maine at Presque Isle.  Both games are slated for a 12:00 p.m. first kick.
