Women's Soccer Comeback Not Enough

PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls Women's Soccer team (1-3-1) hosted the Fisher College Falcons (2-5) in a high scoring affair on Sunday afternoon.  The Falcon comeback was not enough as the Owls fought back to earn their first victory of the season by a score of 8-6.

Deliah Schreiber (FR, Liston, ME) gave the Owls their first lead in the second minute.  She received a pass from Carla Halvorson (SR, Easton, ME) and knocked it in from the right side.  The Falcons would answer in the 14th minute when Hannah Malone (FR, Beavercreek, OH) would find the net to tie the game.  Just three minutes later Schreiber would connect on her second goal, from the almost same exact spot, this time on an assist from Jessy Dickison (JR, Caribou, ME).  With time winding down in the first half, junor Sam Nadeau (St. David, ME) would uncork a beautiful shot from deep that would sail over the keeper's head and into the top of the net to put the Owls up 3-1 going into the half.

The Owls would extend their lead on their first possession of the second half.  Halvorson would score an unassisted goal extending the UMPI lead to three.  At this point the Falcon's leading scorer got into the act, and Julia Schojan (JR, Rochester, NY) would provide an answer with a goal assisted by Holly Lesperance (JR, Litchfield, NH).  Just three minutes later Halvorson would knock in her second of the game with Nadeau getting the assist.  Fisher would make a run at this point, and in the span of five minutes Schojan would score three goals, while Malone would add another to give the Falcons the lead with time winding down.  The Owls would answer back, this time it was Schrieber in the 60th minute with an unassisted score.  She would also give UMPI the lead five minutes later off of a pass from Dickison.  The Owls would get some insurance on a ball that deflected off the Fisher defenders and trickled into the net, and they would go on to win it 8-6.

For UMPI Schreiber would end up with four goals on the afternoon, while Halvorson had two and Nadeau netted one.  On the Fisher side Schojan was responsible for four goals while Malone would score two.

The Falcons will return to action on Saturday, September 24 as they play host to A.I.I. Conference opponent Washington Adeventist University in a women's and men's double-header.  The women will kick off at 7:00 p.m. with the men following after.
