Medford, Mass. – Fisher College and Mass. Maritime Academy (MMA) faced-off in an NAIA-NCAA cross matchup Tuesday evening at Hormel Stadium.  The two teams played through 120 minutes drawing a 1-1 tie after two overtimes.  After the draw, the Falcons become 3-5-2 overall while the Bucs become 4-3-1 on the season.

Fisher, after tying with Washington Adventist on Saturday evening, was looking to bounce back and earn a victory from the first whistle.  However, MMA has control of the ball for the first few minutes of the game taking the first shot just a minute and a half into the game.  The Bucs overpowered the Falcons in the first half outshooting the Falcons 18 shots to 5. 

Although MMA had control over the game and the ball, neither team could get shots passed the outstanding goalies in net.  Junior Paige Ciavarro made 9 saves in the first half for the Falcons closing out the half not allowing a goal for the Bucs.  Bucs goalie reciprocated and did not allow a Fisher goal in the first forcing a 0-0 score heading into the break.

After a physical and scoreless first half, both teams came out of the break with an intensity not seen in the first half.  Falcon forward Julia Schojan gave her team an extra power boost in the 51st minute after scoring the first goal of the game to put Fisher up 1-0 over the Bucs. 

Bucs players wouldn't stand going down 1-0 forcing them to nail down the hatchet and score themselves nine minutes later to knot the game at 1-1.  The physicality of the game continued to increase as time ticked on, but the score would not change forcing the first overtime. 

Seconds into overtime, junior Holly Lesperance took a shot from the left side setting the tone for overtime.  Bucs goalie was able to make the save changing the momentum of the OT period.  Ciavarro had the pressure put on her as the Bucs offense was taking shots just shy of the posts.  The Falcon defense was able to help out Ciavarro and keep the ball out of Fisher territory to force overtime number two.

In the second overtime, the Bucs continued to outshoot the Falcons, but Ciavarro proved her dominance by not allowing a goal.  Schojan was issued a yellow card for the pushing which had continued from regulation, but it didn't stop teammates from continuing to take laser shots at the net.  The clock quickly ran down and expired before either team could sink another shot in goal freezing the score at 1-1.

Ciavarro made a total of 21 saves of 22 shots on goal, only allowing 1 goal on the evening.  Lesperance dominated with 4 shots on goal while Hannah Malone had three. 

Fisher College will have a few days rest before heading to Dean College on Saturday, October 1 for a 12:00 p.m. kick-off.
