Falcons Earn Redemption on Owls

Medford, Mass. – The Fisher College women's soccer team prevailed in their rematch with the University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI) on Sunday, October 16 at Hormel Stadium in Medford, Mass.  The Falcons were able to take a 6-3 victory over the Owls after taking an 8-6 loss just a few weeks prior.

 

Senior defensemen Camila Da Silva scored two goals in the first half for the Falcons to help give them their 3-1 lead heading into half-time.  Da Silva's first goal took place after an UMPI offside call giving the Falcons a free kick which Da Silva kicked and bounced over the goalkeeper's head for a 1-0 lead.  

 

After Da Silva's first goal, UMPI answered back to knot the game at 1-1.  Amanda Santiago took a pass from Julia Schojan to put the Falcons up 2-1 over the Owls with about 15-minutes in the first half.  In the 40th minute Da Silva's second goal again was on a foul kick where she was able to place the ball from about 50 yards out on the right side into the bottom left corner of the net to put the Falcons up 3-1.

 

Fisher came out of the break with a spark still ignited, wanting to earn their revenge on the Owls.  Schojan within 2-minutes of play scored her first goal of the game to up the Falcons' lead to 4-1 with well over 40 minutes left to play in the half.

 

Before the Owls struck back, Schojan sent a laser into the net for her second goal and the teams 5th goal to take a 5-1 lead.  UMPI scored two goal in the matter of seconds against the Falcons to cut the lead to 5-3 with 11 minutes left to play.  Schojan earning her hat-trick of the game scored the final goal in the 87th minute to seal the victory at 6-3 in the Falcons' favor.

 

Hannah Malone earned the victory in net for the Falcons giving up 3 goals, making 8 saves with 11 shots on goal.  Holly Lesperance was another key players in the Falcons victory taking three shots on goal including a penalty kick.

 

The Falcons will have a few days rest before hitting the pitch again at Hormel Stadium in Medford, Mass. where they will play host to the State University of New York at Delhi.  The game is slated for October 22 at 1:00 p.m. where it will also be fan appreciation day.
