Schojan’s Hat Trick Pushes Falcons Past Mustangs

Medford, Mass. – The Fisher College women's soccer team took on the Mount Ida College Mustangs Sunday afternoon in an NAIA-NCAA cross match-up.  The Falcons (7-3) controlled the majority of the game against the Mustangs (6-8) by a score of 5-1.

Senior forward Julia Schojan dominated for the Falcons in the second half scoring a hat trick to give the Falcons some insurance goals.

The energy of the game was high for each team in the first half.  Wilnette Memeus was able to put Fisher on the board first in the 18th minute as she dribbled by defenders and placed the ball in the net.

After 30 plus solid minutes played, Fisher put another goal on the board after Memeus passed to Schojan who was able to pull the goalie out and hit the bottom corner, 2-0 in favor of the Falcons.  Mount Ida was not going into the break without a fight and put a goal of their own up on the board in the 44th minute to make it 2-1.

Shortly after stepping back onto the field, the Falcons struck again with another cross from Memeus to Schojan to put the Falcons up 3-1.  The Falcons weren't done and in the 71st minute, senior Holly Lesperance scored with an assist from Delaney McNulty, 4-1 Falcons.

In the 83rd minute, the Mustangs committed a foul close to the Falcons goal, but Darien Lavino power kicked the ball to the Mustang half of the field where Schojan was once again able to dribble by a defender and score the Falcons fifth goal for their 5-1 lead.

The remaining seven minutes quickly expired and the Falcons took the victory.  Senior goalkeeper Paige Ciavarro made 8 saves, allowing 1 goal.  Kelsey Parkin took the loss for Mount Ida making 9 saves and allowing 5 goals.

The Falcons will have a few days off before hopping on the bus to Delhi, NY where they will take on the Broncos of SUNY Delhi.  First touch is at 1:00 p.m.
