Women’s Soccer Wraps up Historic Season

Boston, Mass. – The Fisher College women's soccer team wrapped up a historic 2017 soccer season.  The Falcons went 13-4 on the season, recording the most wins in program history.  Although the team did not make the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference Tournament, the team hosted and placed second in the conference tournament for the Northeast Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (NIAC).

The Falcons opened the season 2-0 with victories over Wheelock College (11-0) and Becker College (3-0).  The teams' first two losses came against Bay Path and the University of Maine at Fort Kent.  After their losses, the Falcons then went on a 4-game win streak before suffering their third loss of the season.

Fisher then went on a 6-game win streak with big wins over Mount Ida College, SUNY Delhi, and two games over the University of Maine at Presque Isle to close out the season.

A few days after their season closed out, the Falcons took on SUNY Delhi in the NIAC Tournament earning a 4-1 victory to advance to the finals on Sunday.  Fisher then took on the University of Maine at Fort Kent in a historical game for Fisher women's soccer.  The Falcons held a lead over the Bengals for majority of the game, but after regulation time expired, the Falcons were tied with the Bengals 2-2.  UMFK netted a goal in the first overtime period to earn the 3-2 over Fisher and the NIAC title.

Senior Julia Schojan broke the NAIA All-Time Goal record in the final game of the NIAC Tournament.  Schojan has scored 146 goals in her four years as a Falcon.  Juliana Filipe who previously held the record at 145 goals playing from 1998 to 2001 set the long-standing NAIA record.

Senior goalkeeper Paige Ciavarro played in 65 games while dawning the blue and white.  She has recorded a total of 14 shutouts and 35 wins.  Ciavarro holds the Fisher record for her 465 saves and her 5769:18 minutes of playing time.  She had her most impressive game in her last career game against UMFK as she made 15 saves and allowed only 3 goals.

Holly Lesperance and Amanda Santiago are two additional seniors that will be deeply missed.  Lesperance played in 60 games tallying 62 points on 23 goals and 16 assists.  Santiago played 40 games in three years as a Falcon scoring 67 points on 20 goals and 27 assists.

The 2018 Falcons will look to build off the 2017 season when they return a core group of starters.  Fisher will again compete in the A.I.I. as well as the NIAC with hopes of adding more teams.
