Boston, MA – The women's soccer team opened up their 2018 season with a hard fought loss to Eastern Nazarene College, 5-15. The Falcons are now 0-1 in the young season while the Lions go to 1-0. Due to significant injuries on both sides, it was decided by the opposing coaches to play the game 8 vs 8 which made for a very high scoring affair.
Eastern Nazarene jumped on the board first as Kyndall Fry (Elk Grove, CA) earned her first goal of the season at 3:40 mark. The Falcons answered right back as sophomore Grace Roach (Hutchinson, MN) put one in the back of the net on a nice feed from sophomore Will Memeus (Everett, MA). The Lions took the lead for good just three seconds later when Sam Bernardi (Longmeadow, MA) got a feed down the middle of the field for the blast, making it 1-2. Eastern Nazarene scored the next seven goals in the half until Falcons senior captain, Delaney McNulty (Northbridge, CA), and senior Ali Mosdale (Marlborough, CT) scored back to back to keep the game in reach. But the Lions offense was relentless as they used their speed to earn two more goals before the half from Freshman Emily Forstrom and Bernardi, her 4th goal of the evening.
The second half saw a lot more action on goal for the Falcons as they peppered 12 shots on goal, coming up just shy on numerous occasions, as 5 shots came off the crossbar or post. Lions goalie, Sarah Moscini (Upton, MA), was only tested once in the first half, but the Falcons never gave up and kept the pressure on, forcing Moscini to make five saves in the second half. McNulty and Memeus put in the final two goals for the Falcons in the second half.
The Lions were led offensively by Bernardi's four goals, while Fry and Forstrom each had three goals apiece. The scoring was rounded out by Diamond Best (Danvers, MA) who had two goals and an assist, and Victoria Hern (Salem, NH), Macie Harlan (Monclova, Mexico), and Kennedy Dowling (Nashua, NH) each found the back of the net once.
The Falcons were led offensively by McNulty and Mosdale who combined for 13 of the 23 Falcons shots. The Falcons look to bounce back and get healthy as they take on Bay Path on Tuesday, September 4th at 5:30pm.
