Seniors Unite in Tight Battle with Broncos

Medford, MA – After a week of rest and a rain delay, the Falcons (3-9-1) looked to defeat the SUNY Delhi Broncos (10-3) on senior day. The Falcons honored their 5 seniors prior to start of the match. The five falcons recognized were Darien Lavino (Tewksbury, MA), Ali Mosdale (Marlborough, CT), Delaney McNulty (Northbridge, CA), Sarah Backholm (Sutton, MA) and Chelsea Browne (Milford, MA).

Despite having a broken foot, Delaney McNulty started her last home game as a Falcon and played for the first 10 seconds of the match. The Falcons struck first in the contest, when Ali Mosdale (Marlborough, CT) split two Broncos defenders and setup a speedy Carla Dasilva (Somerville, MA). Two minutes later the Broncos responded with a goal of their own from Samantha Friedman (Staten Island, NY). At 14:06 the Broncos struck for a second time off of a pass from Kelsey Innes (North Babylon, NY) which was buried by Friedman for her second goal of the game. A few minutes later Katie Herba (Perth, NY) lobbed a shot from 40 yards out which fell just out of reach Fisher's goalkeeper Alexandra Colvin (Longmont, CO). Looking for their own quick response to Delhi's offensive activity, Ali Mosdale lofted a corner kick to a leaping Chelsea Browne, who headed the ball past Broncos goaltender, Rachael Scoones (Waterville, NY) for some double trouble senior magic. With 10 seconds left on the clock the Broncos had one last opportunity to extend their lead but the ball was stripped away by a perfectly timed slide tackle by fellow senior honoree Darien Lavino.

The Falcons came into the second half looking for an equalizer in this heated matchup. At 35:39 Ali Mosdale was tripped inside the box and was awarded with a penalty shot that she placed in the bottom left corner. Exactly one minute later Kelsey Innes stormed down the right wing and took a shot that just trickled in past Colvin, returning the Broncos to the lead. With 12:03 left in the match the Broncos put another on the board when Samantha Friedman scored her second goal of the game. Only 30 seconds later Chelsea Browne put home a rebound for her second goal of the game. The Broncos extended their cushion later in the second half with a goal from Kesley Innes for the 6-4 lead. Unfortunately the Falcons could not provide an answer to these last goals and fell short to the Broncos 6-4.

The lady Falcons will look to cap off their regular season with a victory as they head to Pine Manor on Tuesday October 30th before heading up to Poultney, VT for NIAC Championship.
