Lady Falcons Lose A Tough Battle Against The Mitchell Mariners

New London, CT - The Women's Soccer team headed west this afternoon to take on the Mitchell College Mariners in hopes for their second win of the season. The Falcons fought hard at Mitchell's Alumni Field but came up short, losing a 1-0 battle to bring their season record to 1-3 overall.

Mitchell College got on the board on an early goal by J'Naya Kelly to take the 1-0 lead just 84 seconds into the game. Kelly was waiting at the far post and took a cross from Lindsey Fairbank from the left side of the net to bank it home giving her team the early lead. The Mariners tested Falcons keeper Olivia Handy (La Verne, CA) just seconds later with another shot by Fairbank, but Handy kept her team within one on a strong save. Fisher had three shots on goal in the first half, testing Mitchell's keeper, Yordi Slover, but neither Olivia Sullivan (Milford, MA) or Meghan Menzel (Big Rock, IL) could find the back of the net and the teams would head to the break with the score 1-0.

Both teams had chances to change the scoresheet in the second half with Menzel leading the way for the Falcons with seven shots overall, but Slover's six saves proved to be the difference as the Mariners came away with a 1-0 victory to improve to 1-2 on the season. Handy, making her first start as a Falcon, was strong in net, tallying nine saves in the losing effort.

The Falcons will look to get back on the winning track when they head to Quincy, MA to take on the Eastern Nazarene Lions in a non-conference matchup on Saturday. The game will be streamed live and can be followed here.
