The Lady Falcons are on a tough stretch after opening the 2019 campaign with a win, the Falcons have now dropped four straight after losing Saturday afternoon to the Eastern Nazarene Lions, 5-0. The Lions improve to 1-3-1 on the year with the win while the Falcons fall to 1-4-0 overall.
The home team opened the scoring in the 13th minute to establish a 1-0 edge as the Lions earned a penalty kick on a Fisher foul in the box. ENC's Diamond Best converted a penalty kick to net her second goal of the season. Eastern Nazarene doubled its advantage to 2-0 in the 17th minute as Sam Baston earned her first goal of the season, knocking in a feed from Sarah Moschini. The Falcons had a chance to get on the board in the 25th minute after a hard foul and yellow card was issued to the Lions, but Meghan Menzel (Big Rock, IL) could not put the PK past the Lions keeper Sophia Fevola to keep it a 2-0 ball game. Will Memeus had a scoring chance just minutes later, but Fevola made another save to keep her team ahead by two. The Lions tacked on their third goal of the first frame in the 34th minute as Kyndall Fry pounced on a rebound off of Falcons keeper Olivia Handy (La Verne, CA) for her first tally of the year, giving the home team a 3-0 advantage before the break.
The hosts kept the pressure on out of the break earning the first four shots of the second half. Menzel tried to get her team back in it with a strong shot at the 54 minute mark, but was again denied by Fevola. ENC widened the gap to 4-0 in the 69th minute when Sam Bernardi drilled a long-range, left-footed shot into the lower right corner of the cage to pick up her first goal of the season with Rachel Pieger notching her first collegiate assist on the goal. The Lions kept the pressure on the Falcons defense, but added a score in the 80th minute to expand their lead to 5-0 as Bernardi tallied her second goal of the contest as she buried a cross off the foot of Moschini.
The Falcons were led by Menzel who tallied seven shots on the day, four on goal. Handy did all she could to keep her team in the game as she made an astounding 20 saves on 25 shots on goal in the losing effort. Lions Sophia Fevola earned her first win of the season, making four saves in the victory.
Fisher will look to get back to their winning ways when they head west to take Cazenovia College on Wednesday at 5:00pm.
