Women's Soccer Earns A Convincing Win Over The Pratt Cannoneers

Boston, MA- The Women's Soccer team snapped their losing streak on Sunday afternoon in convincing fashion, defeating the Pratt Institute Cannoneers 5-0 at the Winsor School. The Falcons fell 4-2 earlier this season to Pratt, but avenged the loss to even the season series at one game a piece. With the win the Falcons improve to 2-10-1 while PI falls to 2-9.

Junior forward Meghan Menzel (Big Rock, IL) got her team off to an aggressive start as she accounted for the games first five shots. She found the back of the net at the 9:43 mark after the Falcons were awarded their first corner kick of the match. Menzel took the kick for her team and it found its way to the back corner of the net untouched for the 1-0 lead. Each team had numerous scoring opportunities during the remainder of the first half but Falcons keeper Olivia Handy (La Verne, CA) handled all five Pratt shots during the first 45 minutes of play, leading her team to a 1-0 lead into the break.

The Falcons extended their lead earning back-to-back goals within five minutes of the second half to gain a comfortable 3-0 edge. Carla DaSilva (Somerville, MA) notched her first goal of the season with 42 minutes left on the clock, on a nice feed from Will Memeus (Everett, MA)and Menzel tallied her second goal of the match just two minutes later. Handy made her presence known on the stat sheet, earning the assist on Menzel's goal putting her team up 3-0. FC looked to put the game out of reach, tallying the games next seven shots, including three shots from Falcons defenders Sarah Graefe (Windermere, FL) and Reilly Demers (Wilbraham, MA) but Pratt's netminder Carly Klein kept her team within three coming up with five saves over that stretch. DaSilva made it a 4-0 contest on another feed from Memeus at the 66:30 mark, while Memeus added a goal of her own with six minutes left on the clock to clinch the 5-0 victory.

Menzel, DaSilva and Memeus each contributed with four points in the victory, while Handy finished with a pair of assists and 10 saves for her first shutout of the season. Daniela De Pontes led the way for the Cannoneers with five shots, while Klein finished with 14 saves in the losing effort.

Fisher will look to use this momentum as they face off against the Fort Kent Bengals, this time on the confines of the UMFK's home field. The two teams battled last weekend with the Bengals coming away with a 4-0 win, so the Falcons will again look for the season split. The action kicks off Saturday, October 19th at 12pm.
