NEW LONDON, CONN. – The Fisher College Women's Soccer kicked off the 2023 season with a 3-0 setback at Mitchell College this afternoon. It was the opening game of the year for both squads as the Falcons are now 0-1 and the Mariners are 1-0.

It was a tightly contested match as the game was scoreless through the first 65 minutes of action. The Mariners broke the tie as freshman Morgan Fontaine (Middletown, Conn.) collected a rebound off the crossbar from junior Francesca Zamarripa (Tampa, Fla.) and sneaking it past Falcon junior keeper Olivia Leo (Dunmore, Pa.). Fontaine then made it 2-0 just 15 minutes later as she received a through ball from Zamarripa, created separation from a defender and rifled the shot into the back of the net.

The final goal of the contest came off the foot of Mitchell sophomore Taylor Bialowas (Griswold, Conn.). She was able to race down the right side of the field, collect a pass from freshman Haley Jeske (Maricopa, Ariz.) and get her shot off at the top of the box as a defender was closing in.

Leo made three saves on the afternoon for the Falcons while her counterpart junior Gemma Landry (Lewiston, Maine) stopped all six shots she faced for a clean-sheet victory. Mitchell outshot Fisher, 16-7 in the contest. Senior Kelly Wallace (Hanover, Mass.) led the Falcons with five shots, four on goal.

Next up, the Falcons will host Emmanuel College on Sunday afternoon at Hormel Stadium. Kickoff is set for 12pm. Mitchell will also be in action on Sunday as they host Brooklyn College.
